Private Porto Architecture Tour
From the charming classics to the eye-poppingly modern
Porto itself is a museum of some of the world’s most diverse architecture, including everything from Romanesque and Baroque to contemporary works. Today you will visit some of its most awe-inspiring modern structures, an experience made all the more interesting by the crumbling background of the old city. You will begin your visit at the Serralves Museum, an architecturally fascinating building that is home to one of the most important collections of contemporary art in Europe. Inaugurated in 1999, the museum is harmoniously integrated within the surrounding urban area and gardens.
Next, you will stop by the Vodafone building, a structure that imitates life in motion as it seems to move with the bustling world below, and the glass facades of Rem Koolhaas’ Casa da Música. Finish your tour at Rosa Mota’s 1956 Pavillion, where you will be treated to spectacular views of the city just beyond the architectural gem.
“Rick and I both wanted to thank you for probably the most memorable experience we have ever taken. As I said to Blanca early on in the trip, “ Every day is like opening a new present!” ”
“You have always provided us with spectacular guides, but, oh my goodness, this one was so far above my already high expectations. He is fantastically knowledgable and quite charming, but what really stood out was that he was such a gentleman with my mother, frequently taking her arm to help her along the way and slowly the pace when he sensed my galloping was too much for her. He would be wonderful with families! He isn't simply knowledgable, but intellectual so conversations with him are delicious and even well seasoned travelers would find him delightful.
