Guided Day Trip to Estremoz, Elvas and Vila Viçosa
Explore a historic corner of the Alentejo
Discover the history of the town inhabited since pre-historic times and enjoy the unique landscape. An important strategic site between the Kingdoms of Portugal and Castile, the town received a charter in 1258 from Alfonso III after the Moors were driven out a second time, which promoted Christian colonization in the area. King Dinis rebuilt the castle as a royal palace, further promoting the area. Stop for a moment and admire a marble quarry in the region of Borba and learn about the origin of the precious stone. Next, visit the largest fortified wall in the world and the magnificent aqueduct in Elvas, constructed by the same man that built Lisboa’s Tower of Belém. Finally, finish the tour with a stop in Vila Viçosa to visit its incredible Ducal Palace and the Our Lady of Conception Church.
